I finished 2nd at the Bradley Open in 2nd division, $400 is a good payout for playing a game I love. Because I am at the top of the division, and I drew a much lower rated player, I only gained 6 rating points, despite winning all my games, except a draw.

 

At 2124 its a slow climb up, and I expect a disaster to strike at any moment.

 

My hardest game was against the 1654 (1728 after the event), who is only 8 years old, who was winning when I swindled him with a draw. This kid has only been playing for 2 years, and out of the blue he just beat and drew several experts. Perhaps I have had a brush with future greatness.

1977 - 2000, Rob Roy wrote 1,300 Waterbury Sunday Republican chess columns.  The column helped his Waterbury Chess Club to become very successful.

Clerks at the newspaper office were the ones who re-typed hard-copy into the newspaper system, they made many typos with chess notation. All future editions of Connecticut Chess Magazine will feature a different column.
