NEW BRITAIN CHESS CLUB BEGINS NEW SEASON

Dear friends and family of the New Britain Chess Club:

I would just like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the start of the club's fiscal year today, September 1.

If you have not renewed your membership to this wonderful organization, I hope that you will do so. To join or rejoin the club, please click on the link below.

As stated on our club's website,

The New Britain Chess Club, a non-profit, is the largest and longest-running chess club in CT. It was founded in 1901 by John Kirkham, an esteemed chess master and a CT State Chess Champion, together with a group of local chess aficionados.

Today, over 120 years later, the New Britain Chess Club continues to hold a prominent spot in the Connecticut chess scene, regularly running tournaments and providing weekly lectures by top chess players and masters.

The club meets every Tuesday at 6:15 pm at the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection, 1910 Stanley Street, New Britain, CT 06053. Meetings consist of a lecture followed by a tournament and/or casual play.

Prospective members and walk-ins are always welcome! Come check us out, socialize with like-minded chess enthusiasts, enjoy an intellectual workout, and play some high-quality chess.

All tournaments are open to the public.

Information on current and upcoming lectures and tournaments can be found on the homepage calendar and in the tournaments page.

We reached 101 members for the last fiscal year, which is close to the club record of 119. I also want to welcome our new club vice president, Justin Lalor, and thank him for his desire to serve. I also want to thank our outgoing club vice president, Lisa Smith, for her year of service to the club. We are grateful for them!

Our first event of the new season will be an honorary tournament for USCF NM Suhas Kodali, our club's president. Click below to check out his chess/NBCC biography.

Our club's final major event of the calendar year and first event of the new season will be its Oktoberfest Open Chess Championship, which I am directing. I hope for a BIG turnout. I encourage everyone to play! Details on this fun event can be found on our club's website.

Enjoy this early taste of fall, with temperatures at night in the 50s and highs around 80.

God bless.
