A stunning last-round upset resulted in the fourth of four possible champions so far this year at the New Britain Chess Club. Niloy Ray Chaudbury employed a Sveshnikov Sicilian to great effect, both in the tournament game and the following playoff game. Here are both games:
Nelson Castaneda (FM RealAndante on LiChess), with his customary class, has added his comments to the game.
The rating differential would give Niloy only a 10% chance of winning, but his rating is quite suspect. Before joining the club, he had not played tournament chess for over a decade. He grew up in India at a time when the "Anand Boom" must have rivaled our "Fischer Boom" of 30 years prior (1972).
These two games and his previous result in the rapid play show a dramatic improvement.
I hope that you enjoy the games as much as I did.
